Cake is a form of sweetish food which is commonly baked. Cakes cover a wide range of preparations that can be elaborate or simple and share features with other desserts like pies, pastries, meringues and custards.
The most remarkably used cake ingredients include flour, eggs, sugar, margarine or butter or oil, a liquid like milk, and leavening agents like baking powder or baking soda. There are also common additive ingredients and flavorings such as fresh fruit, or dried candied, cocoa, nuts, and the extracts like vanilla with many substitutions for the main ingredients. Cakes can also be filled with pastry cream, and be iced with butter-cream and other icings. It can also be decorated with candied fruit or marzipan or piped borders.
